School Children Programme
The public schools in Bhutan are managed by the government. There are schools even in the most remote areas, run by highly motivated teachers who try to provide the basic schooling even though they are handicapped by lack of resources. The children suffer due to lack of infrastructure, long distances to school, inadequate money for school uniforms, shoes, food, books and stationary.
The aim of this specially conceived support programme is to supply school children from poor families with the necessary school materials and help improve the school infrastructure and facilities in remote areas.
The success of the programme speaks for itself. Due to the excellent cooperation with our Bhutanese sister association, Bhutan - Switzerland Society, we are supporting several primary schools with funds provided from the society and donations from private persons and firms.
The schools we support are located in the districts of Mongar and Zhemgang.

Pilot Bakery Project, Bjoka Primary School, Zhemgang
The main objective of this project is to supplement the nutritional values received by the school children under the Ministry's general school feeding program. As a fact bread has high carbohydrate and nutritional values to help children build themselves and grow physically and mentally strong.
By providing the technical equipment and the adequate stock with all the necessary ingredients for making bread till the end of the school session and last but not least by training six staff-members in bread-making and handling the special equipment the school children can get fresh and clean bread for breakfast now thrice a week.
This project was implemented through the Bhutan - Switzerland Society in Thimphu and funded by two private donators through the Society Switzerland - Bhutan.

Yangbari Kitchen Garden Irrigation Project
As the farmers of Yangbari are suffering from nutritional deficiency, and are having low living standards, it is most important for the 45 households to be trained in vegetable cultivation to gain a minimum level of dietary energy consumption and income generation by selling vegetables. With the watering facility at easy reach, they could grow vegetables throughout the year, producing different varieties of vegetables.
The Project consisted of the construction of a 39’200 litre reservoir tank and fitting of 5720 m High Density Polythene (HDP) water pipes and sprinklers in 54 gardens.
This project was implemented through the Bhutan - Switzerland Society in Thimphu and funded by two private donators through the Society Switzerland - Bhutan.
